Thursday, December 30th, 2010

reggovThe sixth newsletter is published by the RegGov project in time before the year 2010 is over. This edition of the newsletter starts with a comprehensive insight to the URBACT Annual Conference 2010 in Liége (BE) where the RegGov network was actively involved. The newsletter includes several reports elaborated by our partners about implemented project activities such as the Third Thematic Seminar in Romania and Hungary in October 2010 and two Thematic Cluster meetings in which they describe their impressions and the contents of the meetings. On the topic of “Roma Integration”, an additional contribution summarises a workshop carried out for the North Rhine-Westphalian cities in October 2010 where the current state of play and perspectives were discussed. The newsletter closes with additional news and announcements of the RegGov network.

4th RegGov Newsletter: Regional Governance of Sustainable Integrated Development of Deprived Urban Areas

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

reggov_nlThe RegGov project has published its 4th-reggov-newsletter. The fourth issue of the RegGov newsletter focuses on the core work within the RegGov project. The first three of four cluster meetings with defined topics have already taken place. Therefore, RegGov partners involved in the accordant clusters contribute their impressions of the meetings and give a brief overview on the two-day meetings with their contents and discussions. Each of the RegGov cluster meetings followed a Local Support Group meeting (LSG) which the Lead Partner Brigitte Grandt and Petra Potz, the Lead Expert, attended. As result of the LSG meetings, an article within this newsletter describes the processes of participation in integrated neighbourhood development, directly from the local level. One further highlight of the newsletter is the article on the integrated urban development plan of the city of Satu Mare which represents a good practice example of the RegGov network. At the end, the newsletter closures with interesting news related to the RegGov network.

A statement of Bernd Mielke, Managing Authority of the RegGov partner city of Duisburg

Friday, April 16th, 2010

reggovManaging authorities play a prominent role in implementing integrated urban development. This approach requires close cooperation between cities, communities, Managing authorities and other project partners. URBACT RegGov project focuses on how to make this relationship as fruitful and efficient as possible.

As RegGov received a Fast Track Label, there is a regular exchange with the European Commission as well. So we can get a better understanding of the European urban policy. Maybe equally important: We can communicate the needs of the cities and the impact of the urban dimension to the Commission. Thereby we can deliver arguments in favour of a continuation of the urban dimension in cohesion policy.

Within the URBAN initiative more than 200 cities in Europe jointly developed the integrative approach. This has proved the benefits of a Europe-wide exchange of ideas and experiences. Working together and learning from each other we can make the idea of a joint Europe come true. In this spirit we like to transfer our experiences to other regions but we also want to learn from others.

However, regarding governance structures we should not expect blueprints that can be easily adopted. It is nearly impossible to transfer governance structures from one region to another, because they are imbedded in a complex overall system of governance and often based on a specific cultural background. Therefore, the transfer of experiences can be an important impetus. But in the end every region has to find its own way.

Therefore our expectation for results of the RegGov project is at the same time ambitious and modest: To develop guidelines for governance that can be adjusted to local structures and needs, and that at the same time are efficient and open for participation.

1st RegGov Newsletter

Monday, November 30th, 2009

reggovThe RegGov project has published its first newsletter. The newsletter of the RegGov network informs on the current stand of the project – the latest news, results and next steps of the project. Therefore it is more comprehensive than the subsequent ones. This first edition presents particularly the history of the network and gives an overview about implemented activities, the partner’s motivation to participate in the network and also finally sketch out the future plans. A report section, a Good-Practice-Guidance and also a calendar of the latest news and activities are scheduled as a series of articles for the subsequent newsletters. Concerning that, the initial article of the report section in this newsletter characterises the first round of the network’s cluster meetings and the initial article of the Good-Practice-Guidance deals with the Local Support Group and the Local Governance Model of the City of Duisburg to make practical experiences and good practice examples accessible to all partners.
