National URBACT Point Coordinator
Heike Mages coordinates the National URBACT Point for Germany and Austria.
Since 2011, Heike Mages works as project manager and communication officer at the German Association for Housing, Urban and Spatial Development in Berlin and most recently in Brussels. Among other things, she is responsible for the association’s public relations and does the national communication on transnational cooperation projects (Interreg B) on behalf of the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development. Heike Mages studied at the Bauhaus-University Weimar and the University of Girona (Spain) and is graduated in Cultural and Media Studies. Before entering the field of integrated urban development, she worked for different concert agencies and as a freelance journalist, inter alia for the German Press Agency dpa. With regard to cities, Heike is especially interested in social cohesion in cities, the cultural and creative industries’ contribution to urban development, social psychology and change management. She loves biking (preferably in cities with existing lanes), hiking and all types of cultural activities.
